Day 1 Fly Forever and then Stay Awake!!! By Alex

Yesterday we flew from Ted Steven's International to Keflavik International in Iceland. Though the flight was long, the view from the airplane was just amazing.
Keflavik was still under construction when we got there, but it looked like they were almost finished.
I knew Iceland had some history behind it, but the legend was much more interesting. Supposedly, elves live within the rocks, and I learned recently that 54% of Icelanders believe this legend. That explains why they build their roads around the large rocks. After we got settled into the youth hostel, we took a bus tour across Reykjavik, our tour guide was pretty good at English. Still couldn't understand the Icelandic language though. No matter how much I tried to understand it, I swear it was practically gibberish to my ears, but it sounded cool, so I didn't complain. On the bus tour, we visited the house where President Reagen and Gorbachev discussed an end to the Cold War, the Reykjavik Cathedral, and the Reykjavik Observatory, whose view spanned the entire city.

There were more photos, but the computer was having some trouble, so this was all I could upload at the time. I found out very quickly that in Iceland, they use this weird currency called a Kroner, whose vale is 134 Kroners to 1 US dollar. Most of us didn't have this currency on us; however, the cashier gladly accepts Euros. Once we came back to the hostel, we napped, and ate a glorious dinner of lasagna and salad. Because of our nap, most of the group awoke at 2 in the morning, but other than that, yesterday was a great start to a long journey.
